"Let the Right One In" review

Journal Entry: Mon Jul 6, 2009, 3:52 AM
Excerpted from the full post on my blog:

Since “Let the Right One In” has already earned a billion reviews, let’s be extra-special and call this one a meta-review – a review of the reviews. Mega spoilers ahoy – this review assumes that you’ve seen the movie, and probably read some of the reviews as well.

My opinion of the film? Five stars. I give it three thumbs up and a dozen nominations for the TriBeCa Telluride Oscar d’Or. If you gave this movie anything less than a perfect rating, it’s because the damned thing raised your standards without you realizing it. Oh, and I think the title is a double entendre (or, more to the point, a double-edged sword). Yes, there’s the lore about vampires not being able to come in uninvited. But Eli also lets Oskar in, after years of making her life with someone she didn’t care about.

Note – I’m well aware that the feminine pronoun doesn’t technically apply to Eli, but she dresses as a girl despite having no concept of fashion or vanity. She seems to have adopted an identity which is more feminine than masculine.

A recurring theme in the second wave of reviews for this film is the assertion that Eli’s relationship with Oskar is an attempt by her to replace Hakan, the surrogate hunter who procures her blood supply. It’s argued in these reviews that Eli sees Oskar only as a means to an end and that the romance is false – almost as if this is a horror movie, which it is not.

Hi, everyone. Any nifty wallpapers or web graphics I put together - or any photos that could be considered art in themselves - will be posted here. I've also got a site at metreoncascade.net, which is the destination for most of the web graphics you see here. Everything on this account is copyright 2008-2009 unless otherwise stated in the license.

And feel free to check out my stock photo account: [link]

Lots of clouds, lots of plants, and some cats. I can also take requests - details in the ID on my stock profile.

The DeviantART/Photobucket Rip Detector:

~cpetten ([link]) has created this Firefox add-on that lets you identify ripped works on Photobucket, by adding blue tags above their thumbnails that say 'Suspected dA rip!'

Here's the link for the detector:

And to run it you'll need the Greasemonkey add-on for Firefox:

The Bucket List

This will be a running list of Photobucket accounts that need to be taken down for stealing from dA. Check out my DeviantID for information on the rip detector. If enough people report their work as stolen, the account will be banned! And the list:
